The 15th Kansai International Airport Tourism Exhibition, the largest international tourism exhibition in Kansai, Japan, was held at Osaka’s Kansai International Airport from May 18 to 19, 2019. Highlighting “Beautiful China” at this year’s exhibition, the China exhibition area covered 90 square meters, featured the “integration of culture and tourism”, showcased the unique charm and China’s rich and colorful tourism resources in an all-round way including an interactive experience area to engage with visitors.
At the invitation of the Chinese tourism authority’s office in Osaka, Beijing culture and tourism bureau organized a number of local tourism enterprises to attend the exhibition, where they briefed visitors on Beijing’s latest cultural and tourism development policies and facilitation measures. They offered visitors publicity materials and souvenirs about Beijing with in-depth promotion of the city’s extensive and profound cultural heritage and rich and diverse tourism resources, elevating local people’s interest in Beijing tourism and expected to help further expand inbound tourism market in Beijing by Japanese tourists.
The Beijing culture and tourism authority also held a public day about “Charming Beijing” on May 19 and 20 at the JR Station, where the traffic is concentrated. A variety of interactive experience activities were carried out on site, including hand-painted Peking Opera facial make-up, hand-painted circular fans, calligraphy and ancient costumes. Many Japanese citizens and local tourists actively participated in these activities and filled in questionnaires about their demand for the Beijing tourism market, which are designed to improve marketing to bring more Japanese tourists into the capital of China.
The Beijing delegation also went to the Osaka Branch of JTB Travel Agency, a global inbound tourism partner with Beijing, where they learned about the release of Beijing culture and tourism promotional materials and conducted discussions and exchanges.
Beijing received 248,000 trips from Japanese tourists in 2018, up 2.7 percent year on year, according to statistics. Japan ranks second only to the United States in the source market for inbound tourism to Beijing.
