Infineon’s new office building supports the effort to expand capacities at its Kulim wafer fabrication facility. This will allow the company to meet growing demand and strengthen its leading position in the power semiconductor market.
Infineon Technologies today celebrated the opening of its new Office 2 administration block. The new building reaffirms Infineon’s commitment to Malaysia as a strategic manufacturing hub for the company.
Structural business and market growth is driving the need to expand manufacturing capacities. To support this growth, the Kulim facility relies heavily on the rapid adoption of Industry 4.0 elements into its wafer fabrication process. This will enable the site to ramp significantly and deliver continuous quality and productivity improvements.
“Infineon is accelerating growth. Global challenges such as climate change and demographic development, urbanization and the digital transformation drive our business. Transforming towards Industry 4.0 is the key to managing the high complexity of semiconductor manufacturing more efficiently. Kulim is a crucial site for our manufacturing footprint, contributing to best serve our customers in a market environment of strong growth,” said Mr. Jochen Hanebeck, Chief Operations Officer and Member of the Management Board of Infineon Technologies AG.
“As we move towards building a well-connected, highly digitalized and automated wafer fabrication facility, we want to ensure that we also develop our people and equip them with the technical competencies needed for this high-tech, smart factory environment. In turn, this will create a pipeline of Industry 4.0-ready talent, not just for Infineon but also for Malaysia as a whole,” said Mr. Ng Kok Tiong, President and Managing Director of Infineon Technologies (Kulim) Sdn. Bhd.
Office 2 will add another 11,800 square meters of administration and office space, a development centre and a recreational area. The new building will be able to accommodate up to 700 employees, comprising mainly engineers, managers, and business services experts including IT and Finance.
