Liverpool, UK (July 2013) – The range of Beatles-themed tours and attractions available to choose from in Liverpool is a fitting legacy to the band, according to VisitEngland.
Beatlemania is alive and well in Liverpool, and if you’re a long-time fan of the music of The Beatles, the city is still the place to go.
VisitEngland recently listed the Abbey Road ‘zebra crossing’ album cover at the top of a list of the most iconic record covers to depict an English location1.
And while Abbey Road itself is in London, the tourism agency still recommended heading to The Beatles’ home town of Liverpool for the best choice of ways to honour their heritage.
The suggested options include:
- Visiting the childhood homes of John Lennon and Paul McCartney, which are open to visitors at a cost of £5 for children and £20 for adults.
- Popping into the historic Cavern Club, free to enter in the daytime, and £3 on the door from 8pm onwards.
- Taking a look around The Beatles Story, based on Albert Dock and with entrance charged at £7 for children and £15.95 for adults.
If you’re considering any of these options, you might want to take a look at the hotels Liverpool city centre has available, and make a longer stay of it.
With plenty of different places to stay overnight – many of which can cater for families taking a cultural city break on a tight budget – there’s good reason to make Liverpool the destination for your next domestic short break.
VisitEngland say: “The iconic front-cover design of Abbey Road sees The Beatles traversing a zebra crossing outside EMI studio on Abbey Road in London.
“This image of The Beatles has become one of the most famous and imitated in recording history. Today, their home city of Liverpool does ample justice to their most famous sons.”
Other entries on the list include Pink Floyd’s The Division Bell, which features a shot of Ely, Cambridgeshire; and The Who’s Who’s Next, which depicts Easington Colliery in County Durham, and was voted the second-greatest album cover ever in a VH1 poll.
