Zhaopin.com’s China Annual Best Employer Award 2014 ceremony was held during the Sanya Forum on December 12th. The “Top 30 Employers of the Year” list and winners of five individual awards including “Top 10 Employers Gaining Most Attention from Undergraduates”, “Top 10 Employers Gaining Most Attention from Women” and “Best SME Employer” were announced. Alibaba, China Merchants Bank, BMW, Tencent, FAW, Baidu, BAIC, PICC P&C, Qihoo 360 and Starbucks were honored as the “Top 10 Employers of the Year”. The top 100 employers came together in Sanya to discuss development, reform, challenges and opportunities concerning HR management in China during the forum.
Zhaopin.com said the top 30 employers have gained more attention from the general public and from employees than the top 100. The top 30 perform better than the overall average in terms of employer branding strategy, employer image, corporate management, salary and benefits, training development and working environment. Each year’s list of the best employers represents both the recognition of employer branding as well as a guideline for white collar workers and graduates who are seeking first or a new job in the upcoming year.
Among the top 30 employers, most are B2C firms. In terms of industry classification, internet and technology firms claimed nine spots on the list, while three internet giants, Baidu, Alibaba and Tencent, were among the top 10. Five finance and five automobile firms also made the grade among the top 30. Wholly foreign-owned enterprises remained the leader in terms of employer branding, claiming ten spots. Noticeably, eight state-owned enterprises and seven private firms were on the list — half of the total.
Peking University’s Institute of Social Science Survey, one of organizers of the “China Annual Best Employer Award 2014”, took into consideration the unique characteristics of each firm as well as its advantages in terms of employer branding during the internal audit. As an illustration, Alibaba provides employees with more benefits such as interest-free mortgages, better commercial insurance plans and special financial support for employees in case of unexpected events. Starbucks’s stock incentive compensation covers all the employees including part-time workers who need to work at 360 hours during the company’s fiscal year. One air purifier is installed on every six square meters of office space at Canon.
