The age old cliché ‘you can’t keep a good man down’ was graphically illustrated in Limerick at the weekend when a talented Mid Kerry handball star came away from the heat of battle having won his 35th All-Ireland medal.
here were celebrations in Glenbeigh when local hero Dominick Lynch, one of the top Irish handballers over the the last decade, won the All Ireland 60×30 Silver Masters Singles final in Hospital, and with it another All-Ireland medal to add to his already impressive trophy cabinet.
Lynch’s opponent in the eagerly awaited final was the highly fancied Carlow player Ollie Ryan.
Playing with a new found passion for the sport, Lynch dominated the final, winning both games and never allowing his opponent the opportunity to put his stamp on proceedings.
“This was vintage Dominick Lynch. He was unstoppable and played with passion during both games. He never allowed Ryan into the game. His kill shots, his movement around the court and his overall play was a joy to watch and he was a deserving winning of the title,” said Jack O’Shea, PRO for the Kerry Handball Board.
Lynch will put this victory quickly aside
As his focus is now firmly fixed on the All-Ireland Over 35 Doubles 60×30 semi-final taking place this Sunday in Ballymacelligott.
“This will be a very important game for Kerry handball. I will be teaming up with Jack O’Shea as we take on Gavin Buggy and Paul Lambert from Wexford with a place in the All Ireland final our goal,” Lynch said. “We met the Wexford lads in the All-Ireland 40×20 Doubles semi-final during the year and we lost by just one point. Hopefully on this occasion we can avenge that defeat,” added Lynch, who has also advanced to the All-Ireland Senior Singles semi-final which will be played in Wexford in three weeks time.
Also playing in Ballymacelligott on Sunday will be Pat Lacey from Asdee and Dermot Casey from Ballymacelligott who will partner up in the All-Ireland Masters Doubles 60×30 semi-final.
