England 05/08/2012- Despite the recession, sales of designer men’s clothes are continuing to grow steadily
In a recession, you would not expect sales of designer men’s clothes to increase. However, that is exactly what has happened.
There are several reasons for this, but first it is important to note that not all designers are experiencing a rise in sales. As normal, market forces dictate how well each designer’s products sell. Those that provide men with what they really want are doing well, whilst designers that are more mediocre are falling by the wayside, and in many cases going out of business completely.
Marketing is always important. In the current economic climate, it is vital. Those designers who use the web extensively are definitely doing better than those who still rely mainly on traditional marketing techniques.
Recent studies show that just over 10% of men buy something, apart from food, from the internet every single week. Ignoring this sales channel is a recipe for disaster.
Men use the web to browse peacefully through clothing and 21% of men read reviews about products, such as clothing, online at least once a week. They use the internet to find out what to buy and those designers who provide reviews of their products are creating new interest in what they have to offer and gaining new customers.
Designer men’s clothes represent great value for money
Even in difficult financial times, people have to buy clothes, but you would not expect them to buy designer clothes at a time like this. After all designer clothes have a reputation for being far more expensive to buy than regular off the peg clothes such as those you find in most High Street stores. Many designers have realised that this is a problem and have adjusted their pricing point accordingly. They have bought their prices down to a level that appeals to consumers. The most successful designers sell T-shirts and a range of other apparel that is priced to be affordable. They rely on the fact consumers are astute enough to realise that paying a little extra for unique clothing is worthwhile. This is especially the case when that clothing is made from good quality materials and dyes. Consumers are happy to pay more for garments that they know will look great despite repeated wear and sales of designer men’s clothes are benefiting from this fact.
