Gardaí have charged the woman who was arrested following the death of Matthew Healy last week, and she is due to appear in court this evening.
Matthew was discovered unresponsive on the back seat of a parked Renault car near Rathmoylan, outside Dunmore East in Waterford.
Despite desperate efforts by doctors to stabilise his condition, he was pronounced dead at 2am last Friday.
The 38-year-old was arrested the early hours of Friday morning and detained her under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984.
A statement from An Garda Síochána this evening said: “The woman, aged in her late 30s, who was arrested as part of the investigation into the death of a six-year-old boy whose body was found in a car at Dunmore East, County Waterford on Friday, 9th February 2024.
“The woman is due to appear before a special sitting of Waterford District Court this evening, Tuesday 13th February 2024 at 8.45pm.
“Investigations are ongoing.”
Matthew’s funeral will take place at the Church of the Immaculate Conception in Watergrasshill, Co Cork at 12 noon tomorrow. His family said they are praying the little boy will “fly with the angels”. He adored his family, his Faithlegg school and sports.
Matthew reposed at the home of his father, James, in Watergrasshill from 5pm to 8pm on both Monday and today.
The Requiem Mass will be led by Watergrasshill Co-Parish Priest Fr Christopher Fitzgerald. After the Mass, Matthew’s funeral will conclude with a private ceremony at The Island Crematorium in Ringaskiddy.
