[08/06/2012]- At Thompsons Solicitors, we believe that compensation solicitors have a very important role to play in accidents where the result has been fatal. In order to make this possible, we feel that it is time for a complete changed in the rules and legislations that look at inquiries in relation to fatal accidents. We believe that courts have to investigate deaths in the right way and not waste any time in doing so. The family of the victim or victims has to be the main driver behind any investigation, thereby helping not just them, but also preventing other people from being in the same situation.
What Do Families Need?
We believe that families need a few very clear things. The first is that they want answers. They want to know exactly what happened, how it happened and why it happened. If they do not have these questions answered, they will be unable to start to grieving process. They also need to know that the loss of life of their loved one was not in vain and that this same situation will not happen to anybody else. Lastly, if applicable, they want to be supported in starting criminal proceedings against the perpetrator of the fatal accidents.
What Do Families Get?
It is our experience that what families need and what families get are very different things. Too often, families have to wait very long periods of time before any type of action is taken. In fact, it can take three years or more for an inquiry into a fatal accident even begins. Furthermore, all too often, no lessons are learned at the completion of a fatal accident inquiry. Also, families often feel as if they are not really a part of the process, being just bystanders that often get in the way. This is what Thompsons Solicitors is trying to change as much as possible.
