The increasingly worsening energy crisis has pushed new energy to the forefront of the sector’s development. As a global leader in thin-film solar energy, Hanergy has initiated a new era of mobile energy, expanding the application range of thin-film solar energy and enabling clean energy to be better used in all aspects of life.
“In the era of mobile energy, energy will be everywhere at any time. Hanergy’s thin-film solar technology can turn everyone and everything into power generators,” said Hanergy founder Li Hejun.
Hanergy creatively implants thin-film solar chips into various carriers to enable them to generate power, creating mobile energy products such as power-generating walls, tiles, umbrellas, bags and paper. The mobile energy technology makes a real difference in people’s life. Moreover, Hanergy has applied thin-film solar technology in urban construction and upgrading to provide the underlying energy structure, boosting urban green development and winning market recognition at home and abroad.
Hanergy and Japan’s Forest Group signed a HanTile pre-sale contract of up to 900 million yuan in September 2018. It is estimated that these thin-film solar roofing tiles can power nearly 30,000 families. In November, Hanergy signed a cooperation agreement with CSR Group, the largest and most well-known roofing tile manufacturer and integrated solution provider in the Southern Hemisphere, to confirm the signing of the long-term sales agreement of HanTile of 100 megawatts in Australia and Asia. They also reached a substantive consensus on HanWall sales and localization programs cooperation. On November 29, Hanergy and Australian green building company ETS signed a HanWall sales agreement for high-rise commercial buildings. Lasting for three years, the agreement involves a property area of 90,000 square meters with total sales exceeding 100 million yuan.
Hanergy’s development started from breakthroughs in technology, and made its way into the main force to realize China’s ambition of developing and manufacturing its own chips. Li Hejun has realized that future competition for energy is contrary to that for traditional energy, as the competition doesn’t rely on resources, but on core technologies. Li believes that whoever masters the core technology will master the energy. There is an unusual patent wall in Hanergy which is densely packed with patent certificates obtained by the company.
Since entering the field of thin film solar energy in 2009, Hanergy has been focusing on breakthroughs in core technologies. Between 2012 and 2014, Hanergy acquired Solibro, MiaSole, Global Solar Energy, and Alta Devices, four overseas companies with leading thin-film solar technologies. It has mastered the world’s most advanced copper indium gallium selenide (CIGS) and gallium arsenide (GaAs) technologies, occupying the commanding heights of the thin film solar industry. The design and manufacturing of core equipment has gradually shifted from overseas to China. The localization of equipments and teams have made rapid progress, with mass production of whole equipment almost 100 percent made in China.
Hanergy applied for more than 30 patents per day and about 1,000 per month last year, with total number of patents topping 10,100 so far. Its patent applications for thin film solar energy ranks first in the world.
The development of various technologies and mass production efficiency also reached record highs. The company maintained four world records in terms of photoelectric conversion efficiency, with the highest conversion rate reaching 31.6 percent. The SHJ technology conversion rate has recently set a new record in China, achieving 24.23 percent. In addition, Hanergy has more than 2,000 global thin-film solar professionals, including a large number of leading scientists in advanced semiconductor and photovoltaic fields at home and abroad.
Hanergy won the “China Good Patent” award from the State Intellectual Property Operation Public Service Platform and the China Intellectual Property Development Alliance in December 2018. “Technology has become the label of Hanergy. Hanergy and its advanced thin-film solar technology have made China a leader in energy development, and led new energy development into the era of mobile energy,” the awarding note said.
