England 5/2/2013 – Self storage investment is a relatively new investment product, but there is increasing interest in this kind of investment
Most people have never heard of self storage investment. However, that is gradually changing. In the current economic climate, getting a good return from traditional investment products like shares, bonds and saving accounts is quite difficult. As a result of this, people and organisations are increasingly turning to alternative investment vehicles.
Pension fund managers, companies and private individuals know that simply leaving their funds in the bank usually means that rather than growing their savings are depreciating. Inflation is low, but so are interest rates. This means that £1,000 will buy less in a years time than it does today, and that interest accrued does not counter this effect.
Most of the alternative investment vehicles people have been turning to have been around for decades. It is just that they are not commonly used. Some people have heard of, for example, investing in wine, but have never seriously considered it as a viable option for them. Many of these alternative investment opportunities perform well and have done so for decades.
However, they tend to be heavily subscribed and getting into them usually requires a substantial pool of funds or some expertise. This puts these kinds of investments out of the reach of ordinary investors.
Fortunately, not all alternative investment vehicles are like this. One of the newest investment opportunities requires under £4,000 to get started and no expertise. It is an investment that has performed well for years and looks set to continue to do so for many years to come. Investing in self storage facilities with the right company can result in assured net returns of at least 8%, which can grow to 12% or more after just a couple of years.
Where to find Self-storage investment
However, this kind of investment vehicle is not widely available. One of the few firms to offer it in the UK is Ldag. They find that because self storage investment is classed as a commercial investment people like to include it in their pension or SIPP. The fact that storage containers are VAT exempt also helps because they do not attract VAT on completion.
