Birmingham, United Kingdom (11th May, 2012) – Trucks Direct UK Ltd, one of the UK’s largest suppliers of quality used forklift trucks for sale and hire, shed light on the importance of apprenticeships in business.
Leading trade associations in the materials-handling sector, the British Industrial Truck Association (BITA) and the Fork Lift Truck Association (FLTA), have reiterated their commitment to developing quality apprenticeships, following the BBC Panorama programme, The Great Apprentice Scandal.
The programme, aired on 2nd April 2012, uncovered evidence of private training providers in some sectors allegedly offering apprenticeships involving little or no work experience and inadequate training. Such an approach, if true, short-changes both the government, which provides funding, and crucially the young people who signed up to an apprenticeship.
Simon Watkins of Trucks Direct UK Ltd is backing this commitment to the extent of a minimum of 2 new places within the business in 2012 for the office and shop floor.
He commented: “Apprenticeships present the ideal opportunity to encourage people to learn a new trade or more generally experience the world of work. They form an essential part of economical growth and should be painstakingly organised to ensure that as much benefit is provided to the apprentice as possible.
“We are looking forward to bringing in our two new apprentices and will continue to offer apprenticeships in the future.”
